Got myself down to Horseshoe Bend today by NOON...better late than never I say.

Upon my arrival I noticed a light algae bloom and thought to try a toad...had a few fish blow up on the toad, but not really taking it, so I pulled out the spinning rod and tied on a 5" Tiki Worm (thinking that because of the reduced weight I could fish it a little slower and that might help) - several missed fish and I decided to chop my Tiki Worm down to 4" to see if they were just striking it short, or just pushing the bait and not taking it. Well there was a little improvement, the fish were definitely swimming off with the bait, but still not really taking it...hmmm...so, I chop off another inch making my offering a 3" Tiki Worm on a 5/0 Gamakatsu deep gap hook T-rigged...that was just the ticket!

After finally figuring out what they wanted I enjoyed some trick worm topwater action that was unbelievable - I caught 18 bass over 14" from 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. then the bite slowed down just a little...at 5 p.m. I see a lot of commotion over to my right and something big chasing a small bass, missing it several time...at one point, the small bass jumped right up onto the bank to evade whatever was trying to eat it...I made one final cast well beyond where I saw the commotion and immediately saw the water erupt and my line get tight...it was a really nice bass! ...but, it was not to be...the fish got me wrapped up in a tangle of branches and with me being stuck on shore was helpless in my attempt to wrestle the fish free of the snag...

...all in all, it was a great day down by the Kankakee!
